Job Description

The Center Director assists with planning, organizing, and directing the programs, activities and operations at Lake Lynn Community Center directly or through subordinate employees. Central duties include the ability to dynamically engage the community and conduct outreach to develop, implement, and market programs for diverse ages and populations. Additionally, this role supervises a full-time Recreation Program Analyst, part time staff, a contracted custodian, and volunteers.

About Us:
Raleigh Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department’s mission is to connect and enrich our community through exceptional experiences. Lake Lynn Park is a 52-acre park located in Northwest Raleigh. The Park property houses a two-story community center, one baseball field with a batting cage, four tennis courts, a playground, one picnic shelter, two bocce courts, one outdoor table tennis table and a 2.8-mile greenway trail around the lake. The Community Center houses a classroom, meeting room, warming kitchen, dance studio, and 2 full sized gymnasiums. The staff at Lake Lynn Community Center also manage Strickland Park and Leesville Road Park. This position works at a community center that is open seven days a week. Flexibility is required to be available for staff meetings, facility events, and providing coverage to part-time staff.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Developing, delivering, and enhancing new and existing facility programs and special events for a 66-81 hours/week facility and oversees class observation and instructor evaluation
  • Coordinating facility rentals
  • Recruiting part-time staff including front desk support, program instructors, and partnerships for program implementation
  • Provides customer service to patrons and the community, acting as a first-line departmental representative at public meetings as well as assist with managing patron complaints, refund requests, transfers or other exceptions
  • Managing general and revolving funds, tracking and reporting of expenses and analysis of facility spending needs and procures supplies for facility and program operation
  • Administration of athletic leagues and communication with involved parties
  • Regularly inspects the facility and park areas and submits service requests for maintenance as needed

Typical Qualifications

Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in parks and recreation, business or public administration and five years of professional parks and recreation programming, planning and/or facility management experience

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.

Licensing andCertifications:

  • CPR/First Aid/AED/EPI certification, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Valid North Carolina Class C Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire
  • Certified Parks and Recreation Professional; The City of Raleigh additionally offers support in obtaining this certification

Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Medium Work:
Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Working Conditions:
Work is performed in both the field and in an indoor office environment with frequent exposure to hazardous physical conditions (such as mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibration, etc.); frequent exposure to atmospheric conditions (such as fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, etc.); moderate exposure to hazardous materials (such as chemicals, blood and other body fluids); frequent exposure to environmental conditions (such as disruptive people, imminent danger, or a threatening environment); frequent exposure to extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting and movement restrictions; and moderate exposure intense noise or travel.
