As a Director of Insurance at Switch, you will be part of a world-class team that operates in excellence, delivering mission-critical solutions that redefine what’s possible in AI, cloud and enterprise data center needs. Your work will directly impact the future of technology and the sustainable growth of the Internet.
In this role you will lead the strategy, placement, and management of all corporate insurance programs for a fast-growing data center company with large-scale construction activity across the U.S. Reporting to the Associate General Counsel and the Chief Financial Officer, you will be responsible for ensuring comprehensive risk coverage for all aspects of the business—including real estate development, construction, operations, and corporate liability—while optimizing cost and ensuring compliance across a national footprint.
What You’ll Do
- Oversee all aspects of the company’s insurance portfolio, including:
- Property and equipment coverage for live data centers
- General and umbrella liability
- Builder’s risk for ongoing construction
- Owner Controlled Insurance Programs (OCIP) and Rolling OCIP (ROCIP)
- Workers’ compensation across operational and construction environments
- Cyber liability and executive risk (D&O, EPLI, fiduciary)
- Structure and manage OCIP/ROCIP programs to support the construction of hyperscale and colocation data center campuses across multiple states.
- Ensure robust builder’s risk coverage for each project phase, including shell, core, MEP systems, commissioning, and tenant build-outs.
- Work closely with legal and development teams to ensure insurance programs align with construction contracts, lease agreements, financing requirements, and vendor relationships.
- Serve as the primary liaison with insurance brokers, carriers, and claims adjusters, ensuring coverage optimization and efficient claims handling.
- Lead insurance due diligence and integration efforts for new site acquisitions and joint ventures.
- Maintain compliance with all insurance-related regulatory, contractual, and lender requirements.
- Oversee issuance and review of certificates of insurance, track vendor compliance, and advise on contractual risk language.
- Partner with operations and facilities teams to ensure appropriate risk mitigation strategies for live data centers, including property, business interruption, and cyber coverage.
- Track and analyze claims, premiums, loss ratios, and emerging risk exposures to inform future coverage strategy.
- Report regularly to Legal and Finance leadership on insurance program performance, cost drivers, and strategic recommendations.
- Drive next-level innovation in Legal to support our mission-critical infrastructure.
- Work in a fast-paced, high-impact environment where execution is key.
- Leverage cutting-edge technology and sustainable design principles to create world-class solutions.
- Uphold Switch’s Karma philosophy— leading with integrity and empowering those around you.
