Position: Head Roaster

Location: Roastery – East Jakarta

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Roasting Operations Management
  • Plan, schedule, and oversee the entire coffee roasting process.
  • Ensure workflow efficiency and hit production targets while maintaining top‑notch quality.
  • Monitor, inspect, and calibrate roasting equipment for optimal performance.
  • Coordinate with production to align output with demand and inventory levels.
  • Supervise routine maintenance and collaborate with technical teams for repairs.
  • Take ownership of the production schedule through to delivery, resolving any delays or discrepancies.

Quality Control & Cupping

  • Develop and implement QC procedures to guarantee consistent flavor and quality.
  • Lead regular cupping sessions to refine roast profiles and evaluate batches.
  • Diagnose and address roasting issues (e.g., over‑roasting, profile inconsistencies).
  • Work closely with sourcing to assess green bean quality and optimize roast curves.

Team Leadership & Training

  • Lead, mentor, and inspire the roasting team in a professional, supportive environment.
  • Deliver hands‑on training in roasting techniques, machine operation, and safety protocols.
  • Organize ongoing skill‑building sessions to foster continuous improvement and innovation.

Sourcing, Inventory & Supply Chain

  • Partner with sourcing to select and procure premium green coffee beans.
  • Manage green bean inventory to ensure uninterrupted production.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with coffee producers and suppliers to secure reliable supply.

Safety & Compliance

  • Enforce workplace safety standards and maintain cleanliness in the roasting area.
  • Communicate hygiene and safety protocols to the entire team.
  • Uphold health & safety regulations to mitigate risks and prevent accidents.

Research & Development

  • Stay abreast of industry trends, new roasting techniques, and equipment innovations.
  • Drive R&D initiatives to develop new blends and elevate product quality.
  • Experiment with diverse roasting methods to expand our coffee portfolio.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years in the coffee industry, including at least 3 years in roasting and 2 years in a leadership role.
  • Deep knowledge of specialty coffee and end‑to‑end roasting operations.
  • Experience managing both small‑batch and large‑scale production.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and cross‑functional collaboration skills.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays, to meet production demands.
