About The Role

This non-sales field marketing role will report directly to the Executive Director, Strategic Development & Advocacy as part of the Commercial Rare Disease Team at ANI Pharmaceuticals, Inc. This is an exciting opportunity to join our expanded presence in retina, ophthalmology, and eye-care space.

The Senior Director, Strategic Development & Advocacy (SD&A) will serve as the national business unit lead for ANI’s Ophthalmology franchise while continuing to lead field-based Thought Leader (TL) engagement in the Southeast. This newly created position blends strategic leadership with regional execution and is designed as a “player-coach” role—providing day-to-day leadership and direct leadership and development to four SD&A Directors supporting the Ophthalmology business nationwide.

The Senior Director will lead national TL engagement planning, provide in-field coaching and direction to a distributed team, and serve as the SD&A lead across cross-functional stakeholders. This role is critical in ensuring that TL insights, speaker programming, and stakeholder engagement are executed with consistency, aligned to brand strategy, and compliant with all company policies.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the national SD&A lead for ANI’s Retina/Anterior Segment franchise
  • Develop and implement strategic Thought Leader (TL) engagement plans that align with commercial objectives
  • Maintain TL engagement within the Southeast territory, modeling compliant and impactful field execution
  • Provide direct managerial oversight, mentorship, and performance guidance to four SD&A team members supporting Ophthalmology across the U.S.
  • Collaborate with Marketing, Legal/Compliance, Medical, Analytics, and Operations teams to align strategy and drive cross-functional planning
  • Lead national advisor and speaker bureau planning, including identification, contracting, and impact evaluation
  • Ensure effective execution of congress planning and participation, including SD&A representation at major meetings
  • Manage national insight aggregation ensuring timely and strategic routing of insights to brand teams
  • Support compliance initiatives and process improvements that enhance operational efficiency
  • Involved with Sponsorships and Patient Advocacy Organizations for the purpose of enterprise-wide coordination (not tactical) of specific functional activities
  • Operate in accordance with ANI’s code of conduct and all policies and procedures, maintaining the highest standards of ethical conduct and compliance

Education / Experience / Qualifications

  • 15+ years of commercial experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry with a similar including leadership in strategic field marketing or franchise TL engagement
  • Experience in managing direct reports and leading field-based teams with recent Retina/Ophthalmology field-marketing experience required
  • Bachelor’s degree in life sciences, pharmacy, or a related field; advanced degree is strongly preferred
  • Southeast location required with expected National coverage for conferences
  • Role requires a strong understanding of the Ophthalmology therapeutic area, as well as the competitive landscape and relevant trends. This knowledge is crucial in guiding interactions with Thought Leaders and healthcare professionals, as well as providing valuable insights to internal teams
  • Proven track record in developing and implementing Thought Leader strategies through compliant and engaging interactions via existing and meaningful relationships with key Thought Leaders
  • Travel: Willingness to travel extensively, including weeknights and weekends, to attend customer meetings and industry events (~40% of the time)
