Area Sales Director

The Area Sales Director is responsible for the development and execution of all strategic aspects of sales and customer service within the defined market area consisting of multiple hauling, disposal, and recycling locations. The Area Sales Director is responsible for the sales, support, and retention of current and future customers within the various market segments and for attaining the Area’s volume and revenue plans in all lines of business to position the Area for a strong, profitable future.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute strategies to achieve the Area’s revenue goals.
  • Establishes sales objectives and drives revenue growth by forecasting and developing annual goals for the territories and projecting expected sales volumes and profit for existing and new customers.
  • Develop and implement market strategies, analyzing trends and results.
  • Responsible for leading and motivating the sales team to ensure team members meet their sales targets.
  • Provides strategic support to the Area Vice President and Area Leadership Team that aligns to the Area’s goals.
  • Identifies opportunities to expand GFL Environmental’s waste services through a deep understanding of pricing strategies, competition, and customers within each market area.
  • Oversee the development of new sales programs and initiatives for the Area and their successful implementation.
  • Develop and cultivate relationships with both internal and external customers.
  • Reports directly to the AVP.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies:

  • 5+ years of demonstrated successful team leadership experience.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in the waste industry and strong industry contacts.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Travel in the US up to 50% of the time to be on-site with customers and to support team members.
  • Deep understanding of current market dynamics.
  • Passion for business excellence with exceptional follow through.
  • Ability to understand, articulate, and lead complex sales processes.
  • Compelling leader who can effectively coach and drive team motivation.
  • Effective at building senior and executive relationship with key customer stakeholders.
  • Strong analytic thinker with demonstrated command of metrics-driven sales model.
  • Strong career trajectory with a history of top performance in successive roles.
  • High professional and personal integrity with high ethical standards.
