Description & Details:

NDSU is developing a new infrastructure for supporting students participating in Club Sports. This new position will provide leadership, supervision, and strategic direction in the development, administration, and evaluation of a premier competitive and recreational club sport program. This position will be responsible for implementing and promoting a dynamic club sport program that enhances student experiences and fosters additional opportunities for involvement. The position will collaborate with various entities to assist in securing facility spaces and donor funding while recruiting and retaining student-athletes, thereby increasing institutional visibility.

Some of the responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Develop and maintain competitive club sport guidelines and requirements, outlining the process for becoming and remaining a competitive club sport.
  • Hire, train, lead, supervise, and evaluate (1) graduate assistant and 5-8 part-time coaches for club sports.
  • Oversee the administrative and logistical operations of a premier club sport program, managing approximately 30+ clubs.
  • Provide direction, guidance, and training to all club sport officers, advisors, and coaches ensuring compliance with departmental and university policies while promoting leadership, development, personal growth and sound financial management.
  • Prepare, forecast, and monitor an annual budget for club sports.
  • Evaluate and develop comprehensive risk management policies, procedures, and guidelines for club sports.
  • Manage Wellness Center operations, supervise staff, and make decisions in the absence of the Director/Associate Director for Operations.
  • Collaborate consistently with the Office of Student Engagement/Student Government/Club Sports/Office of Registration and Records related to current policies, processes, procedures, sport club budgets, player eligibility and other related matters.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Admission to develop a streamlined process for recruiting club sport athletes.
  • Serve as a liaison between the NDSU Foundation and club sports.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with alumni, parents, corporate partners, and other stakeholders to support club sports.

Work Schedule:

Monday-Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm during the academic year and 7:30 am – 4:00 pm during the summer and recognized breaks. Occasional nights and weekends related to club sport and Wellness Center programs and/or operations.

Advertised Salary:

Commensurate based upon experience

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 2-years of club sport experience
  • Knowledge of risk management in a recreational setting
  • Ability to build, develop, and cultivate relationships across campus and within the community
  • Ability to provide strong leadership and supervision to the graduate assistant and coaches
  • A positive attitude with high standards of personal integrity and professional competence
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail with the ability to develop and manage multiple projects
  • Ability to work evening and weekend hours as needed

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Recreation or Sports Management
  • Demonstrated experience managing and/or advising club sports
  • Participation in collegiate club sports programming
  • Experience with the recruitment and retention of students
  • Fundraising experience
  • Familiarity with NDSU systems, processes and policies
