Construction Company Controller

SUMMARY

Join a growing $10M architectural millwork manufacturer as a Construction Sub Contractor Controller, where you will lead the financial, administrative, and operational functions critical to the company’s success. This is a hands-on leadership role that combines strategic oversight with practical day-to-day management, ideal for a candidate who thrives in a dynamic, evolving environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial Management and Reporting:

  • Monitor daily cash balances to ensure adequate liquidity and operational efficiency
  • Manage the month-end close process and prepare timely financial statements for ownership, the Fractional CFO, and banking partners
  • Oversee financial audits and prepare supporting documentation as needed
  • Maintain accurate records in three integrated financial systems to ensure effective job costing and financial tracking
  • Meet periodically with the company’s bankers and bonding company to review financial performance and forecasts
  • Year end jobs completed accounting reports to CPA for Annual Reviewed Statements
  • Percent Complete Over/Underbillings calculations for monthly financial statements.
  • Job Costing Accuracy for all jobs.

Accounts Receivable and Payable Oversight:

  • Supervise timely and accurate preparation of accounts receivable, including AIA progress billings based on specific contract terms
  • Review aging reports and support collection efforts with direct reports
  • Supervise vendor and subcontractor payment processes to ensure accuracy and timeliness

Payroll and Tax Compliance:

  • Review weekly payroll processing, ensuring accuracy and compliance with contract-specific requirements
  • Prepare corporate federal tax returns, personal property filings, and state sales tax for CPA review
  • Submit all payroll certifications and tax filings in a timely and accurate manner

Insurance and Risk Management:

  • Serve as the decision-maker for all insurance product renewals including employee benefits, general liability, workers’ compensation, auto, umbrella, and environmental policies
  • Facilitate annual open enrollment and manage ongoing benefits administration
  • Handle all workers’ compensation and auto accident claims including filing and tracking

Human Resources and Organizational Development:

  • Lead new hire intake and onboarding processes
  • Oversee employee performance reviews, raise discussions, and documentation of behavioral concerns
  • Develop and maintain the employee manual and facilitate compliance with workplace policies
  • Mentor and develop accounting staff to align with company growth and operational needs
  • Design and implement companywide job descriptions and organizational structure
  • Train managers on employee performance and conduct management

Process Improvement and Systems Implementation:

  • Lead the modernization of accounting systems by transitioning from legacy practices and outdated software
  • Implement new financial and operational systems, including integrations with QuickBooks, bill.com, and Innergy
  • Create and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) that align with company values and operational goals

Other Responsibilities:

  • Address IT-related issues in coordination with external service providers
  • Perform special projects and strategic assignments at the direction of Ownership and the Advisory Board

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

· Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field required. CPA preferred.

· Minimum 7 years of progressive accounting experience with at least 3 in a supervisory or controller role.

· Experience in construction or manufacturing environments.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

· Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.

· Excellent analytical and organizational skills.

· High attention to detail and accuracy.

· Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.

Strong leadership and communication skills.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $80,000.00 – $105,613.00 per year
