Job Summary

The Director of Application Development is responsible for setting and leading the vision for the strategic development, implementation, and management of the solution delivery unit in alignment with organizational strategy. This position directs the planning, delivery and operation of IT systems and solutions that meet business goals and objectives by optimizing processes and creating efficiencies for short-term and long-term objectives. Also, this position is responsible for overseeing succession planning, training and development, budgeting approval for unit allocation and adherence, and directs the overall leadership direction, standards, and exceptional deliverable by effectively leading, mentoring, guiding, and providing direction in unit to execute the overall solution delivery strategy.

Essential Functions

Key Duties/Responsibilities/Accountabilities

  • Directs, leads and oversees staff in accomplishing work objectives within the unit(s). Coaches, motivates, rewards and recognizes subordinates. Sets clear goals, objectives and performance expectations and holds employees accountable for achieving results.
  • Develops strategies and business plans by exploring and systematically evaluating opportunities with the greatest potential for efficiency while leveraging automation and innovation to support business needs and objectives; ensures successful preparation and execution of business plans through effective planning, organizing, and on-going evaluation processes.
  • Initiates and leads the change process to ensure the execution from start to finish occurs smoothly and resolves any concerns that may arise to guarantee completion in a timely manner. Maintains quality service by establishing and enforcing organization standards and methodologies to measure results to ensure highest quality in deliverables occurs.
  • Identifies and understands issues, problems, and opportunities; obtains and compares information from different sources to draw conclusions, develops and evaluates alternatives and solutions, solves problems, and chooses a course of action to ensure best solutions are delivered in a prompt manner and with successful resolution.
  • Oversees technical architectures, capacity and automation plans, and creates comprehensive plans for prioritizing software enhancements. Ensures guidelines and best practices are followed and appropriate security certifications of products are completed within defined timelines.
  • Collaborates with business leaders, security and other stakeholders to plan and execute against a broad array of business and product needs. Interfaces with senior to mid-level management and subject matter experts across all disciplines and functional areas on the selection, prioritization and balancing of the business initiatives to ensure alignment with strategic goals and organizational priorities; taking into account the overlapping needs for related information in other disciplines.
  • Oversees area(s) budget management activities including annual budget preparation, scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances, plus initiating corrective action and capacity planning to ensure budget adherence for effectiveness and alignment with the organization’s short-range and long-range strategies.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Project Management, Computer Science or related field OR a combination of education and equivalent work experience as determined by HR
  • 8 years of technology, solutions-focused project management or related experience, of which includes 5 years of supervisory/staff leadership
  • Advanced level of staff leadership, technical/professional knowledge and skills, decision making, analytical thinking, communication, and negotiation skills

Preferred Qualifications

Above requirements and the following:

  • Master’s degree in Business Project Management or Computer Science
  • 10 years of technology, solutions-focused project management or related experience, of which includes 5 years of supervisory/staff leadership
