Director of Finance and Operations

The UT Dallas International Center (IC) facilitates strong partnerships with universities and institutes worldwide to enhance global awareness among the UTD and surrounding communities. The IC utilizes its unique position within the University to promote international and global engagement and contributes to the development of graduates with a global awareness. The UT Dallas International Center is organized administratively into four major offices: International Education, International Students and Scholars, International Initiatives, and Immigrant and Citizenship Services. All these units are directly served and supported by the administration team, which serves as the hub of the center’s operations.

Primary Purpose of Job: The Director of Finance and Operations creates and executes the strategic financial plan of the International Center and provides critical business analysis on financial activities to support decision-making. Reporting to the Vice Provost for Global Engagement, and collaborating closely with other center directors, this role will institute best practices to provide analytical support for growth opportunities, resource allocation, decision-making and oversee financial operations, including budget management, financial reporting, monitoring cash flow, developing and maintaining best practices and internal controls for center finances and operations. The Director is also responsible for effectively leading the center’s administrative and operational staff. The Director will function with a high level of accountability and is required to actively participate in the collaborative planning of all the center’s activities.

Minimum Education And Experience

Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of related progressive experience.

Preferred Education And Experience

Master’s degree in a relevant field, plus supervisory and administrative experience in higher education and financial management. 5-7 years.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Financial Management. Includes analysis, budgeting, forecasting, monitoring, and reporting. Manage the annual budgeting process and regular forecasting updates, ensuring they reflect business priorities and operational realities. Research complex budget issues as necessary. Conduct deep financial analysis to identify trends, risks, and opportunities. Provide actionable insights to IC leaders to inform decision-making. Develop and maintain financial models to monitor company performance against strategic goals. Highlight variances and recommend corrective actions.
  • Financial Strategic Planning: Using advanced business acumen, collaborate closely with other IC leaders to steer center finances, ensuring sustainable budget alignment and performance optimization aligned with the IC and university objectives.
  • Administrative and Operations Management. Supervise administrative, operations, data analytics, and marketing staff. Responsible for talent management, office administration, project planning and management, purchasing, procurement and vendor management, internal and external customer service, and continuous improvement mindset and ability to optimize work processes and achieve positive results.
  • IC Leadership and cross-functional collaboration. Work closely with IC leaders and staff to gather inputs for financial models and forecasts and to advocate for optimal fiscal management.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Additional Information

After the probationary period, this role may be eligible for a hybrid (partly remote/partly in-office) work schedule, subject to business need and manager approval. May be required to use personal computer and other standard office equipment. Must be located within the DFW Area and have the ability to be on campus with 24 hours of notice. A UT Dallas Remote Work Agreement will be required within 14 days after approval.
