Director of Operations

A growing and well-established company in the construction and civil infrastructure space is seeking a Director of Operations to lead and optimize field and back-office operations across multiple crews and project types. This role is a critical member of the leadership team and will serve as the operational backbone of the business, ensuring high-quality project delivery, team performance, and sustainable growth.

This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong field experience, business acumen, and the ability to lead a diverse team of supervisors, project managers, and field staff. The ideal candidate brings a blend of deep paving expertise, operational excellence, and a lead-by-example mentality rooted in work ethic, accountability, and results.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all field operations with a strong focus on paving project execution, crew performance, and on-time delivery
  • Manage multiple active job sites, balancing multitasking, scheduling optimization, and resource allocation
  • Ensure operational alignment across project planning, production, safety, logistics, and quality assurance
  • Serve as a visible, hands-on leader in the field and office — someone who leads by example and earns the respect of the team
  • Mentor and manage project managers, site supervisors, and foremen to drive operational consistency and high-performance standards
  • Collaborate closely with ownership and senior leadership on business planning and strategic growth initiatives
  • Develop and refine SOPs and scalable processes to improve efficiency and profitability
  • Oversee equipment usage, material procurement, vendor relationships, and subcontractor coordination
  • Monitor job costs, labor tracking, and performance KPIs for continuous improvement

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of operations leadership in paving, heavy civil, or construction industries
  • Proven experience managing crews, schedules, budgets, and high-volume paving projects
  • Deep understanding of asphalt and concrete paving methods, equipment, and field logistics
  • Strong multitasker with the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and deadlines
  • A work ethic-first leader who thrives in the field, gains buy-in through action, and sets a high standard
  • Comfortable implementing structure, safety, and accountability in a fast-paced environment
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with construction technology and reporting systems
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent field leadership experience strongly considered

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $110,000.00 – $130,000.00 per year
