Job Summary:
Our client is seeking a highly experienced and strategic Head of Human Resources to lead our HR function. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned HR professional with a strong background in the manufacturing sector, demonstrable experience working with trade unions (specifically the National Joint Industrial Council – NJIC and the National Union of Chemical, Footwear, Rubber, Leather, and Non-Metallic Employees), and the ability to contribute at a strategic level. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the Head of HR will be responsible for developing and executing HR strategies that align with the overall business objectives, fostering a positive employee relations environment, and ensuring compliance with all relevant labor laws. This role requires excellent leadership, communication, and relationship management skills, as well as the ability to present effectively to the board of directors.
Key Responsibilities:
• Strategic HR Leadership: Develop and implement comprehensive HR strategies, policies, and programs that support the company’s business goals, including talent acquisition, performance management, learning and development, compensation and benefits, and employee engagement.
• Trade Union Management: Serve as the primary point of contact for trade unions, including the NJIC and the National Union of Chemical, Footwear, Rubber, Leather, and Non-Metallic Employees. Lead negotiations, manage collective bargaining agreements, and ensure effective communication and collaboration.
• Employee Relations: Foster a positive and productive work environment by developing and implementing effective employee relations strategies, addressing grievances, and ensuring fair and consistent application of company policies and procedures.
• Board Presentations: Prepare and deliver clear, concise, and insightful presentations on HR-related matters to the board of directors, providing updates on key HR metrics, initiatives, and potential risks or opportunities.
• Talent Acquisition and Management: Oversee the recruitment and selection process to attract and retain top talent within the manufacturing industry. Implement effective performance management systems to drive employee development and productivity.
• Compensation and Benefits: Manage the company’s compensation and benefits programs, ensuring they are competitive, equitable, and aligned with industry standards and legal requirements.
• Learning and Development: Develop and implement learning and development initiatives to enhance employee skills, knowledge, and capabilities, supporting individual and organizational growth.
• HR Compliance: Ensure the company’s HR practices and policies comply with all relevant labor laws and regulations in Nigeria.
• Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong working relationships with employees at all levels, management, and external stakeholders.
• HR Budget Management: Develop and manage the HR department’s budget effectively.
• Hybrid Work Management: Oversee and support the implementation and management of the company’s hybrid work model in Lagos.
Requirements
Qualifications and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or a related field. A Master’s degree or relevant professional certifications (e.g., CIPM) will be an added advantage.
• Minimum of 12 years of progressive HR experience, with a significant portion of that experience gained within the manufacturing industry and 2 years at the senior management level.
• Proven track record of successfully working with trade unions, specifically the National Joint Industrial Council (NJIC) and the National Union of Chemical, Footwear, Rubber, Leather, and Non-Metallic Employees.
• Demonstrated experience in leading and managing collective bargaining negotiations.
• Strong understanding of Nigerian labor laws and regulations.
• Excellent presentation and communication skills, with the ability to effectively present information to executive leadership and the board of directors.
• Deep knowledge of strategic HR principles and practices.
• Exceptional interpersonal and relationship management skills.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Must be based in Lagos or willing to relocate.
