The Interim Music Director plans and executes our music program from July to October 2025, centered on our 10:00 am Sunday service, which includes directing the adult choir during its performances. The Music Director reports to the Minister.
Job Responsibilities (General)
- Coordinates and directs the music for Sunday services, which begin at 10:00 am and run no later than 11:30am.
- In conjunction with the Music Committee and the Minister, plans and selects choral music, vocal performances, hymns, and other music compatible with the sermon topic and the season.
- Lead congregational hymns or recruit volunteers to do so when absent.
- Schedules a substitute for pianist/accompanist as necessary.
- Schedules with the Office Administrator, and submits music selections to OA by Tuesday of each week for publication and licensing purposes
- Arranges/schedules special music performances as schedule and budget allow
- Provides Bookkeeper with work hour totals on a monthly paysheet
- Meets monthly with the Minister
- Meets regularly with the Music Committee
- Becomes familiar with the music library and orders music within budget parameters
Job Responsibilities for Adult Choir August-October
- Conducts choir performances two Sundays each month and provides or schedules special music on the remaining Sundays each month
- Aug-Oct, directs choir rehearsals on Wednesday evenings from 7:00-8:30 pm. On Sundays the choir performs, directs their morning warm up from 9:15-9:45 am.
- Communicates regularly with choir members on upcoming performances, musical selections, and any change to the regular schedule
- Recruits church members and friends, as well as outside performers, for needed choir sections
Qualifications:
BA in Choral Direction or similar, MA or higher preferred; min one year experience in professional choral direction; familiarity with classical, traditional church, modern, jazz, secular choral repertoire; competence in instrumental performance a plus!
Tolerance of differing religious, social and political beliefs is a must for work at a Unitarian Universalist Church. We are NOT a traditional Christian faith community.
