Job Description

The Managing Director, Strategy & Operations focuses on developing, refining, and implementing strategic frameworks that guide the long-term vision of the Technology & Operations Department. Reporting to the MD, Strategy & Operations, the role serves as a key driver of strategy development, ensuring alignment with the broader strategic priorities of CPP Investments, while also leading the execution of critical initiatives. The MD acts as a pivotal integrator between strategic intent and practical delivery, enabling operational excellence across the department.

Accountabilities:

In partnership with Technology & Operations Group Heads and their teams:

  • Contribute to defining functional strategies and operating models that align with enterprise strategy.
  • Apply structured problem-solving approaches to diagnose complex, ambiguous challenges and develop actionable paths forward.
  • Craft and communicate a compelling strategic narrative for the department, ensuring understanding and engagement across stakeholder groups.
  • Lead the design and implementation of key strategic initiatives within Technology & Operations, ensuring both thoughtful planning and effective execution.
  • Drive deep strategic analyses, drawing on industry research and internal data to guide evidence-based recommendations.
  • Provide clear, actionable insights to senior leadership grounded in strategic assessments and rigorous frameworks.
  • Monitor the external landscape to identify trends, threats, and opportunities for long-term competitive advantage.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor and connector between senior leadership, helping to align perspectives and accelerate decision-making.
  • Support the establishment and tracking of key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure progress against strategic goals.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in strategy roles, including time in a top-tier consulting firm and/or leadership within investment management, financial services, or technology operations.
  • Proven ability to both design and execute strategy in a complex, fast-paced organizational environment.
  • Demonstrated experience leading large-scale transformations, change management, and cross-functional delivery initiatives.
  • Executive presence with strong communication skills and the ability to influence and engage senior stakeholders, including Group Heads and Managing Directors. Strong interpersonal and relationship-building capabilities; able to work across diverse teams and functions with credibility and empathy.
  • Track record of solving highly ambiguous, “messy” problems using structured frameworks and practical execution plans.
  • Experience working closely with technology & operations teams, with the ability to navigate risk, prioritize initiatives, and drive alignment across competing interests.
