Senior Director, Enterprise Insurance Risk

As Senior Director, Enterprise Insurance Risk, you will lead a team of five insurance professionals and serve as the most senior subject matter expert of Insurance Risk at Best Buy, reporting to the Chief Compliance Officer. You will collaborate with key internal stakeholders and external partners to help identify, assess, manage, and mitigate insurable risks, based on optimal risk/reward opportunities. You will help ensure that Best Buy meets its key business objectives consistent with Best Buy’s purpose (Enriching Lives through Technology). This highly visible leadership role requires a dynamic and nurturing leader who is energized by developing people and creating synergies among Insurance Risk and related cross-functional workstreams. To be successful in this role, you will need organizational agility, expertise in insurance placement, risk mitigation, claims management, captive strategy, and outstanding people leadership skills.

This role is hybrid, which means you will work some days on site at the Best Buy Richfield, MN Corporate Campus and some days virtually from home or other non-Best Buy location. What You’ll Do

  • Leads and develops a team of five insurance professionals
  • Ensures alignment of identified risks with enterprise insurance coverage and exposures
  • Analyzes various risk financing methods to conform with the organizations risk tolerance
  • Collaborates with internal and external partners to ensure alignment with organizational goals and business objectives
  • Maintains primary responsibility for managing and developing the strategy for Best Buy’s captive insurance company
  • Ownership of relationships with key business partners; insurers, brokers, and other service providers (actuaries, captive insurance managers and consultants)

Basic qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience leading or being a significant contributor in a corporate risk management function, including expertise in insurance placement, risk financing, and claims management programs
  • 5+ years of team leadership experience
  • Expertise in management and utilization of a corporate captive insurance company
  • Subject Matter Expertise in Casualty, Property, Management Liability, Professional and Cyber Liability insurance coverages
  • Experience in contractual risk transfer
  • Strong analytical skills, with proficiency in statistical analysis, financial modeling, and risk assessment methodologies

Preferred qualifications

  • Ability to interface with senior organizational leaders, including Best Buy’s Board of Directors.
  • Experience in leveraging risk management information systems (RMIS) to inform decision making.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Risk Management, Finance, Insurance or a related field.
  • Professional Certifications/Designations (CPCU, ARM or CRM)
  • Strong negotiating skills
  • Proven ability to build relationships and partnerships internally and externally
