Job Description

The Software Engineering Director exhibits a mix of technical acumen, strategy and vision, along with the ability to cultivate and grow technical talent. The Software Engineering Director is responsible for designing, developing, implementing and testing a set of technical products in response to an external or internal need. The Software Engineering Director is an advanced technologist enabling strong coding practices and solid design decisions. Builds meaningful relationships with relevant stakeholders and effectively partners to remove organizational obstacles and guide cross-team strategic efforts. Acts as agile/product champion by enabling product teams and partnering with other leaders to drive empowerment, autonomy, engineering momentum, and business value. Fosters a culture of empowerment, engineering excellence, and growth.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent work experience
  • 8+ years of relevant software engineering experience
  • 5+ years of experience leading a software engineering team

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Money Movement Experience team (iOS, Android, OLB), accountable for Zelle, Internal Transfers, External Transfers, ACH, Wires, and Partner Cards for both partners and bank areas along with integration APIs required to connect with Money Movement Capability and Rails Team.
  • Drive delivery of resilient, stable, and scalable money movement solutions, ensuring seamless customer and partner experiences across all channels.

Organizational Leadership & Cross-Team Coordination:

  • Large-Scale Organizational Management: Demonstrated ability to lead and scale engineering organizations, managing multiple teams and leaders across geographies.
  • Engineering Leader Development: Experience mentoring and managing engineering managers and senior technical leaders, fostering a culture of accountability, growth, and innovation.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Proven track record of coordinating with multiple backend, capability, and infrastructure teams to deliver end-to-end solutions.
  • Multi-Channel Technology Oversight: Oversight experience across diverse technology stacks, including iOS, Android and Online Banking, ensuring cohesive and consistent money movement experiences across all channels.
  • Strategic Alignment: Ability to align priorities and resources across multiple teams, ensuring seamless integration and delivery of complex, cross-functional initiatives.

Payments & Banking Expertise

  • Demonstrate deep knowledge of digital payment systems (Zelle, ACH, Wires, Internal/External Transfers, Partner Cards) and the broader payments domain.
  • Understand and anticipate the business impact of technology decisions within the money movement space.
  • Keep abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes affecting digital payments.

Operational Excellence & Delivery

  • Own the execution of the product roadmap, delivering features on time, within budget, and with minimal disruption to production.
  • Drive automation, process improvements, and adoption of cloud-native technologies to increase efficiency and scalability.
  • Set and enforce standards for code quality, security, and compliance across all money movement solutions.
  • Manage dependencies and risks, proactively resolving issues to ensure delivery and stability

Note: This role offers a hybrid/flexible schedule, which means there’s an in-office expectation of 3 or more days per week and the flexibility to work outside the office location for the other days.

The salary range reflects figures based on the primary location, which is listed first. The actual range for the role may differ based on the location of the role. In addition to salary, U.S. Bank offers a comprehensive benefits package, including incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase 401(k) contribution and pension (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). Pay Range: $143,905.00 – $169,300.00 – $186,230.00
