Sr. Director for Strategic Space Business Unit

The Senior Director for MTSI’s Strategic Space Business Unit will possess a willingness and capacity to understand the totality of MTSI business interests and corporate-wide capabilities available to address the needs of US Space Force (USSF), United States Space Command (USSPACECOM), Space Rapid Capabilities Office (SpRCO), Space Development Agency (SDA), Space Systems Command (SSC), Space Operations Command (SpOC), Space Training and Readiness Command (STARCOM), and relevant stakeholders.

 

We are seeking a dynamic leader with a proven track record of growing an engineering and technical services business, and a track record of active engagement and collaboration across the space domain enterprise.  This position requires an active TS/SCI security clearance with a polygraph.

 

This position can be located near one of MTSI’s space customers (e.g., Chantilly, VA, Colorado Springs, CO, Albuquerque, NM, Los Angeles, CA, or San Diego, CA).

As the Senior Director for MTSI’s Strategic Space Business Unit you will possess a willingness and capacity to understand the totality of MTSI business interests and corporate-wide capabilities available to address the needs of US Space Force (USSF), United States Space Command (USSPACECOM), Space Rapid Capabilities Office (SpRCO), Space Development Agency (SDA), Space Systems Command (SSC), Space Operations Command (SpOC), Space Training and Readiness Command (STARCOM), and relevant stakeholders.

 

The ideal candidate will be recognized in the industry as a thought leader who has a deep knowledge base of the full lifecycle of space systems’ capability delivery, rapid technology development and transition to the warfighter, and possesses strong operational and business development leadership abilities. The candidate must be capable of leading a business unit dispersed geographically at multiple MTSI sites, providing a diverse set of services (e.g., systems engineering, digital engineering (DE), model-based systems engineering (MBSE), modeling simulation and analysis (MS&A), software development and Agile/DevSecOps tools & infrastructure, test and training, and rapid prototyping & experimentation) to space customers. Candidates can shape and influence DoD and USSF guidance and policy for DE, MBSE, MS&A, MLS Cloud, and other priorities.  This position requires an active TS/SCI security clearance with a polygraph

Your essential job experience and functions will include but not be limited to:

  • You must possess a broad expertise across a wide spectrum of USSF organizations providing acquisition and technical support, technology assessment and mission analysis services, technology transition roadmaps and partner engagement, digital ecosystem design and delivery, rapid capability development, demonstration, and deployment, test and training, and basic and applied research and development.
  • Experience building and leading government or industry teams.
  • Provides technical direction and oversight to high-performing teams of contractor personnel at government sites, contractor sites, and in remote locations.
  • Provides tactical and strategic direction to all members of the business unit, providing and communicating a vision for continued success and growth within the MTSI framework of core competencies and differentiated skill areas.
  • Upholds and instills the highest of moral and ethical standards of conduct throughout the workforce, living by and fostering MTSI’s core values.
  • Demonstrated passion for developing and nurturing the workforce, providing coaching, and mentoring at all levels of the organization.
  • Identifies new customer targets, initiates capture efforts within the MTSI growth framework, builds fully resourced execution plans, and initiates/participates in proposal activities to protect current customer base and further MTSI growth.
  • Develops, evaluates, and manages business opportunity pipeline, with an emphasis on new strategic business opportunities, initiatives, partnerships, and alliances.
  • Oversees market analysis, monitors competitive activity, and identifies customer needs.
    Provides leadership in the planning, designing, due diligence, and implementing of strategic business objectives.
  • Works collaboratively across all National Security Division (NSD) business units and across all MTSI operational divisions, building alliances and relationships to not only grow the Strategic Space Business Unit, but MTSI overall.
  • Demonstrated excellence in oral and written communication skills.
    Oversees all PMs in the business unit to ensure exceptional and efficient profit & loss (P&L) management.

 

  • 15+ years’ experience across the DoD, USSF, and/or Industry in leading, executing, and growing highly specialized and classified efforts for major DoD and USSF space systems and technologies.
  • You should be able to lead:
    • (1) Efforts advancing the Department’s delivery of game-changing space-based and space ground system technologies in timelines relevant to peer and near-peer threat conflicts.
    • 2) Diverse efforts requiring some or all of DE, MBSE, MS&A, Agile/DevSecOps/Cloud, and Digital Transformation capabilities.
  • Candidates should have direct experience supporting one or more of the following organizations: USSPACECOM, SpRCO, SDA, SSC, SpOC, STARCOM, AFRL/RV, MDA, and/or NRO.
  • An ability to represent and articulate MTSI’s core values, and a history of excellent ethical business conduct.
  • A well-organized and self-directed individual who is a team player and has a track record of effective internal and external collaboration and team building.
  • An individual with a demonstrated passion for developing future MTSI leaders to include new supervisors, project managers, and program managers who can, in time, compete for MTSI senior leadership positions.
  • A strategic thinker with the vision and ability to lead new business development efforts to achieve growth objectives for the business unit and division.
  • Ability to lead a growing >125-person organization and >$100M/year-class line of business with significant growth potential, with a demonstrated track record of P&L success.
  • Ability to provide strategic guidance for existing and prospective strategic sourcing vehicles (e.g., large IDIQ contracts) with projects/TOs supporting multiple MTSI divisions and business units as well as multiple subcontractor teammates.
  • Experience with managing and growing command-level technical services support across a USSF portfolio or organization.
  • Ability to maintain and perform program billable work (25% or greater, dependent on ability to develop and win new business).
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills with a proven ability to interface internally and externally at executive levels, and ability to gain support and buy-in from all levels of leadership.
  • Ability to develop and mature customer and industry partner relationships.

Education Requirements:

  • BS in a technical discipline (mathematics, physics, engineering, computer science). 
  • Master’s degree in business (e.g., MBA) or MS in a technical discipline is desired.

Clearance Requirements:

  • TS/SCI clearance and CI Polygraph with eligibility for Full Scope Polygraph.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required for this position.

Travel Requirements:

  • The position requires moderate travel (10%-20%) to customer and office locations across the United States.
