Duties

  • Determines program goals, priorities, resource needs and allocations, requirements for organizational changes, and public policy stances, taking into account the effect on other organizations and economic impact of actions and decisions.
  • Coordinates program efforts with other internal activities and activities of other external groups and agencies. Assesses the impact of program on developments outside the organization.
  • Delegates authority commensurate with responsibility to subordinate supervisors.
  • Deals with general personnel management matters and actions concerning key employees and other actions, which may have serious repercussions.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below.

Basic Requirement For Supervisory Biologist:

  • Degree: Bachelor’s degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

OR

  • Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Basic Requirement For Supervisory Forester:

  • Degree: Bachelor’s degree (or higher degree) in forestry; or a related subject-matter field that included a total of at least 30 semester hours in any combination of biological, physical, or mathematical sciences or engineering, of which at least 24 semester hours of course work were in forestry. The curriculum must have been sufficiently diversified to include courses in each of the following areas:

Management of Renewable Resources — study of the science and art of managing renewable resources to attain desired results.

Forest Biology — study of the classification, distribution, characteristics, and identification of forest vegetation, and the interrelationships of living organisms to the forest environment.

Forest Resource Measurements and Inventory — sampling, inventory, measurement, and analysis techniques as applied to a variety of forest resources.

OR

  • Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major in forestry, or at least 30 semester hours in any combination of biological, physical, or mathematical sciences or engineering, of which at least 24 semester hours were in forestry. The requirements for diversification of the 24 semester hours in forestry are the same as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Basic Requirement For Supervisory General/Civil/Environmental/Mechanical/Electrical Engineer:

Basic Requirement For Supervisory Physical Scientist:

  • Degree: Bachelor’s degree (or higher degree) in physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.

OR

  • Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to one of the majors, as shown in A above, that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

In Addition To Meeting The Basic Requirement Above, To Qualify For This Position You Must Also Meet The Qualification Requirements Listed Below:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes directing and managing Operations and Maintenance, Natural Resources Management, Recreation, and Emergency Management programs, overseeing single and multiple purpose Civil Works water resources and development flood risk management projects. Managing flood risk management operations and maintenance, dam and levee safety evaluations, recreations, environmental stewardship, emergency management, invasive species management and multi-hazard analysis response and planning for flood risk management and navigation features.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-15).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-14).
